Namdaemun-ro, a 1,5 kilometre, 8-lane boulevard, starts at the cross road around Bosingak Pavilion in Jongno-gu, and ends at Seoul Station. Namdaemun-ro got its name from Namdaemun Gate, unofficial name of Sungnyemun Gate, Korea's National Treasure No. 1. April 1, 1914: It started to be called Namdaemun-tong. October 1, 1946: The name was changed to Namdaemun-ro when Japanese names were changed to Korean names.
