WORD
The Sile (Venetian: Sil) is a 95 km river located in the Veneto region of north-eastern Italy. Its source springs are situated in the municipality of Vedelago in the Province of Treviso, and it ultimately flows into the northern part of the Lagoon of Venice at the mouth of the River Piave Vecchia. The river is supplemented by the waters of its tributary, the Botteniga, at Treviso. Various rivers in the Veneto plain have origins in either the nearby Alps or the plain itself, with the Sile being one of the latter. Due to its origins in the plain, the Sile is relatively short. Its primary springs are found in the vicinity of Albaredo, Casacorba, and Cavasagra within the municipality of Vedelago, with the fontanasso dea Coa Longa regarded as the main spring. The river initially consists of two branches, which merge at Morgano. It follows a winding west-east course passing through or near Santa Cristina, Quinto di Treviso, Canizzano, and Treviso. Upon reaching Treviso, it changes direction, flowing in a northwest-southeast trajectory toward the lagoon. Along its route, it traverses Silea, Casier, Cendon, Lughignano, Sant'Elena, Casale sul Sile, Quarto d'Altino, Trepalade, and Portegrandi.
