WORD
The Savinja river winds through northeastern Slovenia, primarily traversing the Upper and Lower Savinja Valley and passing through the towns of Celje and Laško. Serving as the primary river of the Savinja Alps, it eventually merges with the Sava River in the town of Zidani Most. Historically, the Savinja has experienced flooding, notably in the 1960s, 1990, and 1995. With a length of 101.75 kilometers and a catchment area of 1,847.7 square kilometers, the Savinja holds significant hydrological importance. The river originates from Rinka Falls, cascading along a regulated riverbed through the lower reaches of the Logar Valley until it converges with Jezera Creek, marking the start of its journey as the Savinja River. Rinka Falls, acclaimed as one of Slovenia's most magnificent waterfalls, is the tallest among the 20 waterfalls in the Logar Valley and remains a year-round attraction, particularly popular among ice climbers during winter. For the best vantage point, visitors can admire the waterfall from Kamnik Saddle. Noteworthy tributaries of the Savinja include the Jušef and Klobaša at Solčava, the Lučnica at Luče, the Ljubnica at Ljubno, the Dreta at Nazarje, the Paka at Šmartno ob Paki, and the Ložnica and Voglajna, alongside the Hudinja, at Celje.
