Podravina, known as Podravje in Slovenian, refers to the Drava river basin in both Croatia and Slovenia. Between 1929 and 1941, the area was a province of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia named Drava Banovina, with its capital in Ljubljana. This historical province encompassed a significant portion of present-day Slovenia. In modern times, one of the Croatian counties is named Virovitica-Podravina, but the official capital of the region is Koprivnica, which also serves as the capital of Koprivnica-Križevci County. Along the course of the Drava river, several major cities and towns thrive: Cities and towns in Slovenia: Dravograd, Maribor, Ptuj. Cities and towns in Croatia: Varaždin, Koprivnica (Capital of Croatian Podravina), Đurđevac, Virovitica, Slatina, Osijek. The state route D2 conveniently connects all the Croatian towns within the picturesque region of Podravina.

The Special Geographical botanical Reserve Đurđevac Sands is located in the middle Podravina east of the town of Đurđevac.It occupies an area of 19,33 ha and was declared a protected area in accordance with the Nature Protection Act in 1963. It is one of the last remnants of the once vast 12 km long belt of Podravina sands from which the wind carried small particles of sands across the Podravina plain and covered the surrounding crops and 'everything alive'. This mobile gray yellowish, quartz sand affected the relief. It is wavy in this area and is characterized by alternation of sand mounds and depressions that reach a height of up to 6 meters. This specificity of the relief is reflected in the specificity of vegetation.In the area of the Special Geographical botanical Reserve Đurđevac Sands, plants of Eastern European and Western European origin are combined with endemic plants of the Pannonian Basin. In addition to the Gray hair grass and the Sand fescue, in the area of the special reserve we can find other sandy species such as Wild thyme, Indian plantain, Field pansy, European knotweed, Broomleaf toadflax and others. Here also grows the Broom which is also popularly called 'zaik' or 'lakotnik', and which was planted in this area with the aim of calming, strengthening and immobilizing the sands.The aim of protection of the Special Geographical botanical Reserve Đurđevac Sands is to preserve the remaining part of sand deposits as a specific relief and habitat important for the survival of the peculiar vegetation of sands, the endemic plant community of the grass, Gray hair grass and the Sand fescue.Apart from the local and national protection of the Special Geographical botanical Reserve Đurđevac Sands, this area is also significant and protected at the European level. It is an integral part of the ecological network of the Republic of Croatia (Natura 2000 site) and is designated as a Site of Community Importance (SCI) with Site Code HR2000571 and Site name Đurđevacki peski.

The Koprivnica Gallery is situated on the main square of Koprivnica, designed in the Historicist style during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Its strategic location offers a splendid view of the city's walled park and the majestic city hall, complete with a clock. The gallery was established in 1977 as an independent organizational unit under the umbrella of the Museum of the City of Koprivnica, housed in the former First People's Savings Bank building (Gjuro Carnelutti, 1904). Functioning as an exhibition hall, the gallery proudly showcases a wide array of invaluable museum collections. Among them are collections of old masters, graphic sheets, drawings, architectural plans, and modern and contemporary paintings. The gallery places a special emphasis on acquiring works by artists who have ties to Koprivnica and the Koprivnica Podravina region, whether through their origin, residence, or creative endeavors. This commitment serves to highlight the thriving and dynamic contemporary art scene within the area.

The Church of St. Anthony of Padua was constructed between 1675-1685 upon the return of the Franciscan Order to Koprivnica. It has one nave with the bell-tower. Parallelly with the church the Franciscans built their monastery using traditional, but baroque shapes. The monastery premises were demolished in 1923 and the southern part was completely pulled down. Once there used to be an adjoining chapel by each side. From the southern side it was St. Mary Lauretan Chapel, destroyed in the 1778 earthquake. In 1745, St Savior's Chapel was erected on the north side as a votive chapel of the Varazdin military region. The chapel is separated from the church nave by a wrought iron fence. The fence and the altar are the most coherent baroque examples of the Middle Podravina area.
