The noble lineage known as the House of Orsini-Rosenberg (also Ursin-Rosenberg) hails from Austria and holds a place among the esteemed high nobility. Originating from the Graben family, believed to be an offshoot of the Meinhardin dynasty, they trace their roots to Castle Alt-Grabenhofen near Graz. The family's historical records date back to around 1322 with Konrad (von Graben) ab dem Roesenperg, a member of the lesser nobility residing at Schloss Alt-Grabenhofen. Over the 17th and 18th centuries, the family's prosperity grew through land acquisition and steadfast allegiance to the Habsburg Emperor. In 1633, Johann Andreas von Rosenberg, titled Herr von Rosenberg, was granted elevated status as Freiherr of the Holy Roman Empire, Freiherr of Lerchenau, Herr of Magereckh, and Grafenstein. Later, in 1648, they attained Austrian Grafenstand. By 1681, they bore the title of Reichsgraf and gained membership in the Reichstag. This period also marked the adoption of the name Ursini-Rosenberg or Orsini-Rosenberg, linked to the renowned Italian princely Orsini family. Then, on October 9, 1790, Franz Xaver Wolfgang von Orsini-Rosenberg was raised to the status of Reichsfürst von Orsini-Rosenberg.
