The Crimean Karaites or Krymkaraylar, also known as Karaims and Qarays, are an ethnicity of Turkic-speaking adherents of Karaite Judaism in Central and Eastern Europe, especially in the territory of the former Russian Empire. "Karaim" is a Russian, Ukrainian, Belarusian, Polish and Lithuanian name for the community.

Trakai Kenesa is the kenesa of the Karaim Jewish community in Trakai, Lithuania, and a rare example of one of the surviving kenesas of the former Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. It was built in the 18th century, restored in the 1890s and is still in use.

The Kenesa of Vilnius built in 1911-1923 is one of two Karaim prayer houses open in Lithuania. The other one is in Trakai. The architect Michail Prozorov designed the rectangular building with a three-walled apse according to the requirements of Karaim liturgy and the Historicist architectural style, which was fashionable at that time. The oriental-style facade has a protruding central part and the onion-shaped dome over it. The distinctive exterior of the building emphasises its unique purpose. In 1949, the Kenesa, along with many other sacred buildings, was nationalised and closed down. In 1988, it was returned to the Karaim community. In 1993, it was re-consecrated and has remained open since.
