The Churchill River (French: Rivière Churchill) is a significant river flowing through Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba in Canada. It extends 1,609 kilometers (1,000 miles) from Churchill Lake. Named after John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough, and governor of the Hudson's Bay Company, the river is known as Missinipi (meaning "big waters") in Cree and des nëdhë́ (meaning "Great River") in Denesuline. The river runs entirely within the Canadian Shield and its drainage basin encompasses several lakes in Central-East Alberta. These lakes connect to a series of lakes in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. After crossing the Manitoba-Saskatchewan border, a significant portion of the Churchill River's flow comes from the Reindeer River, which originates from Wollaston and Reindeer Lakes. The flow from Reindeer Lake is regulated by the Whitesand Dam. The Churchill River then flows east through several lakes—Highrock, Granville, Southern Indian, and Gauer—before being diverted for hydroelectric generation into the Nelson River (which receives 60% of the flow), with the remaining flow continuing as the Churchill River into Hudson Bay at Churchill, Manitoba.

Holy Trinity Anglican Church is a historic Carpenter Gothic-style building situated along the banks of the Churchill River in Stanley Mission, part of the Lac La Ronge First Nation and Lac La Ronge Provincial Park in Saskatchewan, Canada.Designed by Rev. The Métis population grew as a result of intermarriages between Indigenous women and fur traders.By the late 19th century, many posts in the region closed due to settler expansion, the sale of Rupert's Land, and the buffalo's westward migration.As of the 2021 Census, the village had 1,425 residents, with 77% identifying as Métis and 18% as First Nations. Most residents speak English, with 18% speaking Indigenous languages, including Algonquian and Michif. Seasonal employment influences the population size, and many residents leave the community for work.
