This site is one of the eight sites of superb scenic beauty of Gwandong province. The lake was originally about 12km round, but now it has been reduced to 4km round due to the build up of silt and sand from the rivers. Around the lake there are many pavilions, namely Gyeongpodae, Haeunjeong, Gyeonghojeong, Geumnanjeong, Banghaejeong, Changnangjeong, Chwiyeongjeong and Sangyeongjeong. Each pavilion has poetry and prose remaining. The surface of Lake Gyeongpo is as clear as a mirror. It is also called 'Lake Gunja' because it is useful to the people. The rock in the center of the lake is called 'Rock of Birds' because a variety of migratory birds visit and rest. Uam Song Siyeol wrote Joam (Rock of Birds) during the reign of King Sukjong of the Joseon dynasty.
