This shamanic shrine has a sad legend related to Aegieopgae (Jeju language for a person who takes care of a baby). The legend has it that once upon a time, a group of Moseulpo haenyeo (women divers) entered Marado Island with a girl who was Aegieopgae to harvest marine products. However, one night when they were worried about returning to Moseulpo because they ran out of food, one haenyeo had a dream. In the dream, she was told that if they did not leave Aegieopgae when leaving the island, the rest of the haenyeo would be in great danger. They had no choice but to leave Aegieopgae. On the day they were supposed to leave Marado Island, they sent her on an errand and they all left on a boat. The following year, when they visited Marado Island again to collect seafood, they found only the bones of Aegieopgae, who died while desperately waiting for them to come back. It is said that to express their sorrow, they built a shrine for Aegieopgae who had been sacrificed for them and held a memorial ritual once a year.
