This place is the site of Hadogam (Lower Military Directorate), one of the outposts of the Hullyeondogam (Military Training Command) during the Joseon Dynasty. During the Japanese colonial period, the area was initially turned into Hullyeonwon Park before the construction of Gyeongseong Stadium in 1925. After Korea's liberation from Japanese rule, the stadium was renamed Seoul Stadium and later Dongdaemun Stadium. In addition to parts of Seoul City Wall and Igansumun (two arch floodgate) that had been torn down under Japanese colonial rule, the foundation of former government offices were also discovered under the Dongdaemun football field, while the site of Hadogam was found under the baseball field. The remains were transferred to three locations in the Dongdaemun History and Culture Park and have been restored there. The remains discovered in this location, Oullim Square, were the foundations of Hadogam from underneath the baseball field. They are believed to be from buildings dating back to the early Joseon period. Four of the buildings and attached facilities discovered in excavation surveys with comparatively well-preserved structure and shape were moved and restored.
