Binillu - Pavilion that Greets the Sun - Naksansa Temple
This pavilion serves as a passage to the main worship area of Naksansa Temple where Wontongbojeon Hall is located. The name Binillu means 'Pavilion that Greets the Sun.' It is unknown when the pavilion was first built. It underwent renovations in 1888 and 1912 but was destroyed during the Korean War (1950-1953). The current pavilion was built in 2009, during the reconstruction of the temple following the devastating forest fire of 2005. The pavilion was reconstructed based on a painting from 1788 by the well-known painter Kim Hong-do (1745-?), who made the painting as part of a collection ordered by King Jeongjo (r. 1776-1800) that depicts the eight famous scenic sites of Geumgangsan Mountain and Gangwon-do Province. The pavilion features a hip-and-gable roof at the front and gable roof at the back. The pillar base stones were collected from the neighboring village, and the pillars were made out of saw-leaf zelkovas and pine trees that survived the fire of 2005.
