Hongyemun - Twin-Rainbow Gate

This gate was built in 1467 to commemorate the visit of King Sejo (r. 1455-1468) to Naksansa Temple. The arch of the gate is made of 26 granite stones which were donated upon the order of the king by each of the 26 counties that comprised Gangwon-do Province at the time. The gate underwent a renovation in 1976. The pavilion on top was built in 1963 but burnt down during a forest fire in 2005. It was rebuilt in 2007.
