Workers' Village Torviscosa - Yellow Houses and Dovecotes Houses

  • Home
  • Italy
  • Torviscosa

The workers' village consists of two blocks of different houses. On the right, there are the so-called 'dovecote' houses, built from 1943, but completed only in the 1960s. The second block, to the left, that of the 'yellow houses', was built between 1941 and 1944. The idea of organising civic life based on the same rules in force inside the factory was reflected in the urban design of Torviscosa through a precise division of the residential areas among the various professional groups. The houses for the executives were arranged along Viale Villa, the clerks and technicians were accommodated in the buildings along Viale Roma and Via Resi Marinotti, while here on Viale Marconi (once Viale delle Legioni - Avenue of the Legions) there were the houses of the factory workers. Ther farm labourers lived in the more peripheral areas of town (Malisana, agencies and Villaggio Roma).
