The Whitehead house, built in 1886 according to a design by Italian architect Giacomo Zammatti, was commissioned for English engineer Robert Whitehead, known for inventing the torpedo. The historicistic residential building showcases a blend of Romanesque and Gothic styles with its red brick and stone façade, earning it the nickname 'Casa Veneziana.' Whitehead also financed other constructions in Rijeka, including the renowned Villa Whitehead near the torpedo plant.
