The Thalia Hall, known as Sala Thalia in Romanian, stands as a theater and concert venue situated in Sibiu, Romania. From October 7, 2004 onward, it has been home to the State Philharmonic of Sibiu. Construction of Thalia Hall commenced in 1787 and reached completion in June 1788, marking the nation's inaugural theater. The architect, Martin Hochmeister, faced spatial constraints in the town's center, leading to the decision to build within the Thick Tower section of the town's defensive walls. Unfortunate fires damaged the hall on two occasions. The first occurred in 1826, with Hochmeister personally overseeing repairs. The second fire transpired on February 13, 1949, ignited by a lit cigarette. The extensive damage prompted a relocation of activities to the former Apollo cinema, now housing the Radu Stanca National Theatre.
