Sf. Treime - Holy Trinity - Roman-Catholic Church

  • Sibiu

The 'Sf. Treime (Holy Trinity)' Roman-Catholic Church, located in Sibiu's Large Square and dating back to the 18th century, is a significant building. After Sibiu embraced the Reformation, the city lacked Catholic churches for over a century. However, a Catholic community formed in the late 17th century following Transylvania's incorporation into the Austro-Hungarian Empire. With the assistance of Jesuit monks, they constructed this church in the early Viennese style. The church was consecrated in 1733 by Transylvanian Bishop Georg von Sorger. The tower, separate from the main structure, was completed in 1738 and features a street-level arched passage to the Small Square. The church's austere exterior contrasts with its interior, adorned with Dorian columns and valuable elements like a significant Baroque fresco and allegorical representations.
