The Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre (PWNHC) is managed by the Culture and Heritage Division of the Department of Education, Culture and Employment, Government of the Northwest Territories. It's recognized as the territorial museum and houses the NWT Archives alongside other cultural functions. It offers school programs, talks, and events free of charge. The center runs educational programs and provides technical support across the Northwest Territories.
The concept was approved in 1972 due to concerns about losing northern artifacts. Building began shortly after, and in 1977, it was suggested by Stuart Hodgson to name it after HRH Prince of Wales. The Prince inaugurated the facility on April 3rd, 1979.
