The owner of Inaba Produce Farms in eastern Washington, sold his family business for millions less than he could have received by selling it to the Yakama Nation. The connections between the Inaba family and the first nation band of Yakama go back generations. When Inaba's ancestors in the beginning of the 20th century first immigrated to the US from Japan they were discriminated against by not being able to lease land. The local Yakama Nation gave them land to farm. During WWII when Japanese Americans were interned in camps the Inaba's again lost their farm. After the war when they were able to return once again the Yakama Nation helped them out. When the current owner was getting ready to retire and sell the farm he could have chosen a more lucrative buyer but instead decided to sell the farm to the Yakama Nation for potentially millions less than could have been received.
