Andrei Șaguna National College - Brașov
The National College 'Andrei Şaguna,' the inaugural Romanian gymnasium in Brasov, was established during the years 1851-1856, following the architectural designs by Ştefan Emilian. The foundation-stone laying event was graced by the presence of Andrei Şaguna (1809-1873), the Metropolitan Bishop of the Orthodox Bishopric of Transylvania. This construction stands as a prime example of neoclassical architecture within present-day Romania. In its time, the high school was a prestigious educational establishment, associated with noteworthy figures of Romanian intellectualism. Notably, the festive hall of the gymnasium received artistic embellishments by the painter Iosif Clement in 1862.
