The Móricz House, constructed in 1912 using the Art Nouveau architectural style, stands as a historic edifice situated at the southern corner of Szent István tér in Szeged. J. Ferenc Raichle undertook its construction between 1910 and 1912 on behalf of József Móricz, a postal official from Szeged. The design of the Móricz House was tailored to the preferences of the contemporary nobility. Forward-thinking for its time, provision was made for an elevator; however, this project remained incomplete for decades, with the elevator framework stored in the yard until its destruction during World War II. Following the post-World War II housing shortage, upscale apartments within the Móricz House were nationalized by city authorities and converted into smaller rental units. In the midst of swift post-war repairs, the building underwent replastering, leading to the concealment of its external decorations. Over time, the interior paintings were removed, and the wrought iron railings were dismantled. By the 1990s, the building's condition had significantly deteriorated. In 2007, the city sold the property for 126 million Hungarian Forints to a company that embarked on a comprehensive restoration effort.
