The monument of Gjergj Kastriot Skanderbeg was inaugurated on November 28, 1959 and is the work of sculptor Janaq Paço. It is the first equestrian statue erected in Albania. Skanderbeg is the national hero of the Albanians, whether inside and outside the borders of Albania, and is a symbol of resistance and unity. The only unofficial king who is universally recognized as a Christian warrior, he protects civilization and freedom values. Skanderbeg's bust is located in many capital cities throughout the world, such as Rome, Paris, Vienna, Brussels, and many more. Numerous well-known writers and composers have been inspired by Skanderbeg's heroism and fame and have devoted artistic works to him such as the opera 'Skanderbeg' composed by Antonio Vivaldi and others. The first and most complete story written about the Albanian people is the work of Marin Barleti's 'Historia de vita et gestis Skanderbegi', devoted to the glorious Skanderbeg in the XV century.
