The monastery and church were established on Ivan Jakov von Eggendorff's property, generously donated by him to the Capuchins. Construction of the monastery was concluded in 1710, followed by the church dedicated to St. James, the apostle, which was built between 1721 and 1723 and completed in 1727. The church was consecrated on September 7, 1727, under the authorization of the Ostrogony archbishop, by the Đakovo-Bosnian bishop Petar Bakić de Lack. For nearly two centuries, from 1727 to 1920, the monastery and church were under the jurisdiction of the Austro-Hungarian province. Subsequently, from 1954 to 1971, they housed a small seminary and the Seraph High School, aimed at training priests. However, in 1963, a substantial portion of the monastery garden was confiscated.
