The Maritime Museum, housed in the 19th-century Gabrielli Palace near Piran harbor, is dedicated to preserving and showcasing maritime heritage and related aspects of the Slovenian territory. It holds a diverse collection covering maritime archaeology, ethnological fishing, and the history of maritime enterprise from the Middle Ages to World War II. The museum also oversees four additional units, including the Museum of Salt-making at Sečovlje saltpans, Tona's House presenting Istrian farmer's life, Tartini's Memorial Room featuring items from Giuseppe Tartini's legacy, and Monfort showcasing traditional shipbuilding and water sports. A museal vessel, the Galeb sailship, is anchored in the sea in front of the museum. Additionally, the museum has established the Izolana collection, the House of the Sea, and exercises professional control over it.
