Hong Kong Coliseum
The Hong Kong Coliseum, also known as the Hung Hom Coliseum, is a multi-purpose indoor arena located in Hung Hom Bay, Kowloon, near Hung Hom station in the Yau Tsim Mong District. It was opened on April 27, 1983, built by the Urban Council to mark its 100th anniversary. With a seating capacity of 12,500, it is the second-largest indoor arena in Hong Kong, behind the AsiaWorld–Arena, which opened in 2005.
Currently managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of the Hong Kong Government, the coliseum consists of a large arena and several conference rooms.
The Hong Kong Coliseum features an inverted pyramid-like structure and is located directly behind the MTR Hung Hom station. The arena floor is rectangular, with seating surrounding it on all sides, and the highest rows reach 41 meters (134'6') in height. The entire facility has concrete flooring. For performances, the floor can be covered with removable wooden or rubberized surfaces to accommodate different events such as futsal, badminton, basketball, volleyball, and ice skating.
The arena's floor can support pressures up to 1,800 kg/m², which is higher than that of industrial buildings. This allows for the installation of music stages, platforms, and large equipment for concerts and other live performances. Additionally, strategically placed speakers and a four-sided, color television screen projector system are available, ensuring clear audio and visual experiences for the audience, even from the farthest seats.
The coliseum also features open and sheltered areas for conventions and conferences. The demountable open stage provides an ideal setting for public events and live television broadcasts, such as opening ceremonies.
