The Historic Site of the Busanpo Waegwan is the place where the Busanpo Waegwan was located during the early Chosun Dynasty - (Joseon Dynasty). The Chosun Dynasty established waegwans, areas where Japanese activities were only allowed to be carried out, including Japanese delegations and merchants engaging in diplomatic activities and trade. The Chosun Dynasty launched the first waegwans in Jepo (currently Ungcheon, Jinhae) and Busanpo (currently Beomil-dong, Busan) in 1407. Later, it launched one in Yeompo (currently Yeompo-dong, Ulsan) in 1418. The Saryangjin Waebyeon, a Japanese riot broke out in 1544, led to the closing of the waegwans in Jaepo and Yeompo. Later on, the Busanpo Waegwan closed in the aftermath of Japanese invasions into Korea during the Imjin War. The Domopo Waegwan was established after, but it was also closed after the Choryang Waegwan (currently Yongdusan Park area) was established in 1678.
