Fourth Incursion Tunnel
The fourth tunnel, discovered on 3 March 1990, is located in the Eastern Sector of the DMZ, 26 kilometers northeast of Yanggu and 1.2 kilometers south of the Military Demarcation Line. Buried 145 meters below ground, the tunnel measures 2 meters high and 2 meters wide. It is almost identical in size and structure to the Second Incursion Tunnel and third incursion tunnel. Designed to facilitate the infiltration of large forces into the Sohwa-Wontong corridor, which is a key access route to the Yongdong (Seoul-Kangnung) Expressway, the tunnel is notable for being the only one in Korea where visitors can view its interior via a viewing train. At the entrance, there are military equipment displays, monuments, and security education centers. Notably, a statue commemorates 'Hunt,' a military detection dog that saved a squad member's life by stepping on a mine and triggering it, thus preventing further casualties.
