The Former Daehwa Corporation Office in Incheon is an office building used by a freight shipping company operated in Incheon Port from the Modern Era of Opening the Port until the period of Japanese colonial rule in Korea. The building carries the style of the Japanese apartment house used for both dwelling and commercial activities in the Japanese concession site (Concession site: A location at an open port area where foreigners can exercise their extraterritoriality, meaning they can dwell and do commercial activities without constraint), called machiya. This three-story building was built in around the late 1880s and the early 1890s, consisting of the office on the 1st floor and residential areas on the 2nd and 3rd floor. The building is widely regarded as a valuable source of information about the history of architecture as it well preserves its original appearance, and shows the lifestyle of the port workers during the colonial period. About 120 years ago, this building was the residence and work office of 'Daehwajo', a former shipping business company in Incheon port during the Japanese colonial era. In 2011 one person purchased the building and restored it close to the original form. In August 2012, it was reborn as cafe pot_R. In August 2013, the cafe pot_R became the #567 registered cultural property recognized by the state.
