  • Porcupine Plain

The first settlers in the area were returning World War I veterans who arrived in the early 1920s. Olaf Quale homesteaded in 1926 on the quarter section where the main town site later developed.
With the construction of the Canadian National Railroad (CN) in early 1929, poplar trees, which were abundant in the area, became a significant source of income. As the settlement grew, Porcupine Plain earned the nickname 'cordwood capital' due to its role in shipping cordwood via rail to the south, which was crucial for the town's early economy. At that time, Porcupine Plain was the largest shipping point in Saskatchewan for this product.
As the trees were harvested and the land cleared, grain crops were cultivated. Today, agriculture remains the main industry in Porcupine Plain, focusing on the production of high-quality grain.
The district expanded over time and was incorporated as a village in 1942. In 1967, it achieved town status, which it retains to this day.
