The First Romanian School is situated within the grounds of the 16th-century St. Nicholas Church in the historical district of Șcheii Brașovului, in present-day Brașov, Romania. It's the initial school in Romania to employ the Romanian language for instruction, replacing Church Slavonic language in 1583. Constructed in 1495, it began functioning even earlier, likely before the 15th century. Villages sponsored students who traveled from various regions to attend, accumulating 1,730 students over time, with a maximum of 110 concurrently. The school operated until 1850 when the Andrei Șaguna College was established. The site now houses a museum with a collection of early Slavic and Romanian books, the first Romanian Bible, and artifacts, including the first Romanian printing press which produced notable works like the first Romanian letter in Latin and the first Romanian schoolbook. The school's significance is commemorated by a plaque highlighting its educational legacy and its role in the community.
