The construction of the water tower started in 1939 according to the professor P. Morkunas' sketches and some of A. Janulionis' working drawings. During the Nazi occupation, the construction of the water tower was discontinued. At the end of June of 1945, construction works resumed. The tower construction works were led by the engineer Jonas Vencius. The construction of the tower lasted nine years, until 1948. On October 30th of the same year, the water tower tank was filled with water from Lepsiai, the first water supply station in Siauliai, and water was distributed into the city's network. This date is considered the official date of establishing Siauliai city's centralized waterworks and the autonomous water supply company. The tower is 45.37 meters high, the building has 4 floors and a basement. Commemorating the changes in waterworks and achievements of its employees, the Waterworks Museum was founded on the ground floor of the tower in 1974. In 1983, it was labelled as a public museum. In 1991, the water supply from the tower was terminated, and the water supply networks were disconnected. The unique museum's exposition is displayed in a large area (about 100 square meters) in a circle inside the perimeter of the round tower. It reflects the company's history, stages of the city's water supply and sewerage development as well as the development and modernization of the company's property, and the traditions of the company's staff. The most interesting exhibits are the photographs of the 20th century, which can be considered the museum rarity. The relics do not only tell a story about the water supply and sewerage construction process but also about a part of the history of Siauliai city.
