The Church of St. Sotiria, also known as the Old Metropolitan, was built in 1784 and is located in the Old Bazar neighborhood. The design of the nave represents the universe, with the domed ceiling representing heaven and a painting of Christ overlooking the congregation. The church was once the seat of the local Orthodox bishop but was heavily damaged during the communist era. The interior has been restored, including framed icons on both sides of the altar and a hand-carved chair in the nave. The sanctuary is separated from the nave by an ornately carved iconostasis. Most of the icons in the church today are reproductions as the originals were removed during the communist years and never recovered.
