The Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, also known as Crkva svetog Petra i Pavla in Croatian, serves as the co-cathedral for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Đakovo-Osijek in Osijek, Croatia. This magnificent neo-Gothic place of worship, constructed in 1898, stands as one of the city's prominent landmarks, boasting a striking 90-meter multi-tiered spire. The visionary Bishop of Đakovo, Josip Juraj Strossmayer, initiated its construction. To enter the church, visitors pass through a small door to the right of the main portal, guarded by a trio of decorative gargoyles. Once inside, they are immersed in a true treasure trove of neo-Gothic splendor. The interior showcases an array of pinnacled altars, adorned with vibrant stained glass windows that create an atmosphere of grandeur and reverence. Between 1938 and 1942, the talented Croatian painter, Mirko Rački, completed the interior with captivating frescoes that depict significant episodes from the Old and New Testaments. The church hosts daily Masses at 07:00 and 18:30, as well as multiple services on Sundays at 06:30, 07:30, 08:30, 10:00, 11:30, and 18:30. Notably, it can accommodate over 3000 people during these Masses. The church's construction is an impressive feat, utilizing three and a half million bricks and featuring colored stone altars. Four tower bells grace the structure, with weights of 2665 kg, 1552 kg, 740 kg, and 331 kg, creating a melodious resonance that resonates through the city. Interestingly, the church stands as the tallest building in Croatia outside of Zagreb. During the 1991 Croatian War of Independence in 1991, the church suffered severe damage.
