Church of St Andrew - Crkva sv. Andrija

  • Vrsar

The Church of St. Andrew, mentioned as early as 1226, was a medieval structure preceding the 18th-century church along the path from Vrsar to Fuškulin. Initially built by local fishermen and farmers, it served as a site for prayer processions. By the 19th century, it was documented in the Franciscan Cadastre, surrounded by brotherhood-owned estates known as S. Andrea. Despite being restored in 1915 through community funding, it fell into disuse after World War II. Documents revealed it was desacralised, left in ruin, its roof collapsed, and even used to house sheep. The bell-cot and altar were relocated for preservation while the church was overrun by plants, making it hard to identify.
