The Cheorwon Peace Observatory offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone), which separates North and South Korea, from its location in the central forward area of Cheorwon-gun, Gangwon-do. Visitors to the observatory can enjoy expansive views of the Cheorwon plain, various sections of the DMZ, and even catch a glimpse of North Korea. The facility features exhibits showcasing photos of the 2nd Tunnel, military barracks, checkpoints, and other aspects of the DMZ.
Access to the observatory is facilitated by a 50-person monorail. Guests can also explore the remains of the ancient Taebongguk (an old Korean kingdom) and use binoculars to see North Korean soldiers in the distance. The observatory operates with morning registration starting at 9:00 AM and ending 15 minutes before the tour, and afternoon registration from 12:30 PM to 15 minutes before the tour, with entry on a first-come, first-served basis.
Please note that the observatory is closed on Tuesdays, as well as on New Year's Day, Children's Day (May 5), Seollal (Lunar New Year's Day), and Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving Day).
