The Cave of Spile is located in the new part of the town of Himarë, in the bay of the same name. It was excavated for the first time in the 1920s and 1939 by Italian archaeologist P. Markone, Ugolini, and Luigi Cardini, who found archaeological material that confirmed the occupation of the territory as far back as the Neolithic period.
