The brewery was founded by the merchant J. W. Reincke in Klaipeda in 1784. Since then, the coat of arms of the factory has been embellished with the emblem of his family - the white tailed sea eagle. In the 19th century, the brewery on the outskirts of the Friedrich suburb was merged with the brewer of the landowner T. Preuss to become the city's main brewery making the traditional Bock, Bavarian and Porter beers. The latter was awarded at the Klaipeda international Business Fair back in 1883. Klaipeda Joint Stock Brewery was one of the highest valued breweries in Lithuania in the interwar period. The company was running its own yeast factory, a wine and liquor warehouse, was famous for its light Audit and Caramel beers. The latter was awarded a medal at the Lithuanian Economic Exhibition in Klaipeda in 1927. During the war, the brewery in Klaipeda operated under the Ostquell name. In 1944, it was almost completely destroyed. Brewing began in 1946 in a brewery rebuilt after the war and named Švyturys. In the seventies, a traditional Baltic beer recipe was developed and is still used in the brewery. The factory was expanding and became some of the most modern in Lithuania still before the restoration of independence.
