Arquebusiers' Tower - Sibiu

The Arquebusiers' Tower in Sibiu, constructed during the 14th century within the city's confines, served as an integral part of the third defensive perimeter. Positioned at the southernmost end of Cetății Street (known as Harteneckgasse in German, named after Mayor Johann Sachs von Harteneck), this tower bears historical significance. Within the medieval city's third fortification ring, known as the 3rd enclosure, a collection of defense towers, including the Carpenters' Tower, Potters' Tower, Arquebusiers' Tower, and the Gate Tower, along with connecting walls established between 1357 and 1366, earned their place on the Sibiu county's List of historical monuments in 2004. This ensemble is classified under the code SB-II-mA-12010.03. The Arquebusiers' Tower itself is a melding of stone and brick, adopting the form of an orthogonal prism. Remarkably, five of its sides extend beyond the fortified boundary. On its lower level, you'll find ramparts shaped like keyholes, designed with precision to facilitate the firing of arquebuses.
