Ștefan cel Mare Central Park, also known as Grădina Publică Ștefan cel Mare or Parcul Ștefan cel Mare in Romanian, serves as the primary park in Central Chișinău, Moldova. As the oldest park in the country, it covers an area of approximately 7 hectares (17 acres). This park has earned the endearing moniker 'The Park of the Lovers' in Chișinău, owing to its popularity as a rendezvous point for couples. Within its grounds, the park showcases a diverse collection of 50 tree species, some of which have aged gracefully, with mulberries and acacias ranging from 130 to 180 years old. Notably, the park features the celebrated Alley of Classics. The Ștefan cel Mare Central Park has a rich history spanning several years. It was originally designed in 1818 under the reign of Alexander I, with architect Bogdan Eitner overseeing the creation of present-day alleys, acacias, limes, and flower beds. In 1863, a cast-iron fence weighing 5,400 kilograms (11,900 lb) was erected around the park. The statue of Pushkin, sculpted by Alexander Opekushin, was unveiled in 1885, making Chișinău the second city, after Moscow, to have a monument dedicated to Pushkin. In 1928, the statue of Ștefan cel Mare was constructed at the park's entrance. During World War II, a communal grave for Soviet soldiers was established in the park. The Avenue of the Classics of Moldovan Literature, featuring statues and busts of Romanian and Moldovan authors and figures, was opened in 1958. The Alley of Friendship, where notable guests like Yuri Gagarin, Mikhail Gorbachev, and Meliton Kantaria planted trees, was created during the Soviet era. In 2009, free Wi-Fi access was introduced to the park.
