Sīkrags is one of the oldest Livonian settlements on the coast of Kurzeme, mentioned in documents as a village as early as 1387. In the 17th century, when the village was owned by the nobles of Dundaga, Sīkrags became one of the most important small ports on the coast of North Kurzeme. At the end of the century, the village had large warehouses, as well as a hotel for sailors. The ports of Sīkrags ceased to exist at the beginning of the 18th century due to the Northern War and the economic and political decline of the Duchy of Courland.
