Rovinjsko Selo, also known as Villa di Rovigno in Italian, stands as a village within the County of Istria. Situated in Croatia, it rests 2 kilometers to the south of the Lim Bay, nestled on a hill closer to the bay's lower reaches. Geographically, it resides at 45°6' 23' north latitude and 13°42' 56' east longitude. Administratively, it falls under the jurisdiction of the city of Rovinj, although physically it maintains no direct connection to it. Positioned approximately 3 kilometers from Rovinj in a straight line, the village is linked to Rovinj via a road extending from Rovinj to Kanfanar.
Established during the 16th century, this village traces its founding to refugees from the southern region of Croatia, particularly the Zadar area, seeking refuge from the Ottoman invaders. Their settlement on the current site of Rovinjsko Selo was sanctioned by the Venetian authorities in 1526. Evidence suggests that the area had prior inhabitants, as indicated by ancient Roman-era fortifications and discoveries predating the village's establishment.
In the 2011 census, Rovinjski Selo counted approximately 1238 residents. By the 2021 census, the population had grown to about 1339 inhabitants, marking it as one of the largest villages across the Istrian peninsula.
