Onhezmi Castle (Plot) has its ruins in the center of the city of Saranda. It is from the Late Antiquity period and was built in three different phases: the first phase belongs to IV-I centuries BC, the second phase belongs to I-IV centuries AD and the third phase to IV-VI centuries AD. The castle, with a shape of a horseshoe and a surface of 5.45 ha, is situated in front of the sea where the Entrance Gate to the Castle is also located. Along the surrounding walls 20 towers were built, of which only 8 have been discovered. In terms of shape, the towers are circular, quadrangular and pentagonal, protruding completely outside the surrounding wall. Nowadays, the northern tower with higher walls is preserved. The thickness of the walls is 2-2.50 meters and the height reaches up to 6.50 meters on the northern side where it is better preserved. 'Basilica-Synagogue' was discovered inside the walls of the Castle. The monument is a three-nave Paleochristian basilica, with an apse, naos, narthex and two northern and southern naves, dated to the IV-V century AD. At the end of the V century and the beginning of the VI century, it is thought it was transformed into a synagogue.
