Data Point related to: CITY/TOWN
On November 26, insurgents retook Namacande, the district capital of Muidumbe, and the nearby town of Muatide. Both towns had witnessed significant insurgent violence against civilians in the preceding weeks and had been recaptured by government forces in a well-publicized offensive on November 19. However, the security gains achieved during that offensive appeared to have dissipated, as insurgents once again successfully occupied both towns. The following day, clashes occurred between government troops and insurgents in Namacande, although no casualty reports from the fighting are available. By November 29, the conflict had shifted northeast to Ntushi, just 10 kilometers west of Mueda. Initial reports from the fighting suggested that 18 Mozambican troops had been killed, and government security forces had retreated to Mueda. As of now, there is no indication of further insurgent movement in Mueda itself.
