On November 13, 2021, a band of more than 30 insurgents raided Nanjaba, a village located approximately 15 kilometers from Macomia town in the Macomia district. They set fire to at least 17 homes, resulting in the tragic deaths of at least three civilians. The assailants also looted a substantial amount of food, taking advantage of aid recently distributed to families in the area that day. The Nanjaba assault highlights the peril faced by returning displaced civilians in conflict-affected areas and exposes the restricted progress made by government security forces in these regions.
