On May 23, 2021, as reported in Monday’s edition of the independent newssheet 'Mediafax,' the Mozambican forces reclaimed Namacunde, which serves as the capital of Muidumbe district. Namacunde has witnessed three turnovers in the last six months. In early November 2020, the jihadists seized and caused damage to the small town. Subsequently, the defense and security forces expelled them several weeks later. However, due to the exigencies of the defense forces in other areas, they vacated Namacunde. The terrorists returned, yet on Sunday (May 23, 2021), they were once again ousted.
