Iba
On January 28, 2022, insurgents attacked two villages west of the N380 in Meluco district. In the initial assault on Iba, homes were set ablaze, properties were plundered, and at least six (with some local reports indicating a figure as high as 12) civilians were killed. Fleeing civilians sought refuge northward in Macomia town after being hindered from heading west to Montepuez by a Mozambican military checkpoint along the road through Meluco district. The village chief of Iba, among those who escaped to Macomia, criticized Mozambican forces for swiftly obstructing displaced individuals from reaching safety in Montepuez but displaying an inexcusable delay in responding to the attack on his village, as told to reporters.
