Oegyujanggak Royal Library
Oegyujanggak Royal Library was established in 1872 by the order of King Jeongjo to store books related to the royal family. The royal family used it to store records of major events, as well as precious items. Unfortunately, Oegyujanggak and other buildings were destroyed during the French Disturbance of 1866. When France attacked Korea, many valuable artifacts and records were stolen, and these remain in France's possession. Following excavation work that lasted from 1995 to 2001, Oegyujanggak was finally restored in 2003.
