Mustvee Bethany Congregation of the Association of Christian and Baptist Congregations of Estonian Evangel was established in 1921 and throughout all the years the people have experienced that this congregation is their religious home. In 1925, missionary Emilie Bertelson became the devoted do-gooder of the congregation. She had acquired Evangelist education in Sweden and worked in post-revolution St. Petersburg from 1918 until 1924 until she was sent out of Soviet Russia. Religious services in Estonian and Russian took place in the villages of Mustvee and Raja, but also in neighbouring farms and the congregation started to grow quickly. In 1930, the Swedes helped to buy a house in the village of Kukita to alleviate the issue of space. The house was rebuilt as an oratory and it became a home for Sister Emilie. In 1935, the congregation bought a plot in the centre of Mustvee. In 1937, a new oratory was built which was soon nationalised by the occupation forces and rebuilt as a cinema. The congregation gathered in the Kukita oratory for a long time. Finally, permission was granted to renovate the ruined church of the Holy Trinity Sole Belief Congregation where work began in 1980. After returning the church to the previous congregation in 2003 the baptists were again left without a shelter. The oratory that was returned as a cinema building was not suitable for use and it was demolished. In 2005, the congregation started to build a new oratory.in the same place which was completed in August 2008 by the help of God and with the support of the donations of Estonian Christians. The architect of the oratory is Marianne Ruus and the construction was lead by Pastor Paul Gill. The stained glass windows of the oratory were made in 2006 in the workshop of the artist Dolores Hoffman. Most of the construction works was carried out by the help of volunteers and the members and friends of the congregation.
