Lichengue
Late in the evening on December 8, 2021, insurgents launched an assault approximately five kilometers south of the district capital in Lichengue. Tragically, an elderly woman lost her life in the attack, and more than 80 buildings were set ablaze. A vague statement from the Islamic State (IS) seemed to take responsibility, mentioning that insurgents had burned 'dozens' of homes in Niassa province.
