It dates back to 1884 when a consulate of the Qing Dynasty was built in the place where a Chinese school is located presently. It was called 'Cheonggwangeori' (Street of Qing Residents), where Qing's people ran shops and resided together. On August 24th 1993, when the sisterhood relationship was set up between Busan city and Shanghai city, it was named 'Shanghai Street'. For further development of this district, it was designated as 'Special Chinatown Zone' by the Korean Government on July 24th, 2007. ChinaTown is an attractive sightseeing place where history and culture of both countries coexist, and tourists can have an amusing time experiencing Chinese culture and having various kinds of food.
