In this salina the salt is still harvested in the ancient traditional way, which has at the same time sustained the survival of the rare and endangered plant and animal species. The pans' salty habitats attract many bird and fish species, as well as numerous tiny organisms. Of particular interest, however, are halophilous plants that thrive only in salt-impregnated soils.
